  • What To Answer In “Tell Me About Yourself”

The statement “Tell me about yourself” is not a interrogatory kind of statement but it requires an answer like an ordinary question would. No one could question one’s answer’s legitimacy but the responder itself, because it is generally accepted that the question has no wrong answers.

This question is the opening statement in any kind or form of interview there is. It is therefore cleverer of you to be conventional to the necessary or anticipated answers by the interviewers. The question itself has its own intentions to do for the interviewer’s advantage. Questions that are asked in an interview all have purposes. There could be no room for such unnecessary questions that would be waste the interviewer’s time, because in any kind of business time is a very important factor.

Tell me about yourself statement is intended to disclose information anything about you that may help in the company’s enhancement. This is where you can tell your personal accomplishments, strength and personality. Like in an art gallery, this is the time you display all the beautiful and best things about you. This question could give your interviewer an overview of what you are and of course, by also supplementing your first answer with the succeeding questions he throws at you. At these questions, you also have to be prepared in answering. Elaborate and support your answers so you wouldn’t leave the interviewer hanging. You must leave the interviewer with lesser and lesser questions about you in his mind, contented.

When question is asked, you are not expected to narrate a long, thrilling story of your life. You cannot give a proper overview of you the interviewer by telling him you hobbies, favorites and interest. You should point out some events in your life that might assist in assessing to in a positive light that you could be of an asset or of a company-benefit employee rather than liability employee.

You can give highlights of your life where there are remarkable events that lead to changes of lives of people around you. Sharing something striking about you or something unique and outstanding could lead to making them crave for you to be part of the company. You should fit to the exact need of the company, because this is where the interviewer would look at first. By doing this, they would know how you would fit and what you could do for the company’s greater good.

There could be times, that the facilitator helps you along the way of the first question, but when you depend too much on this and let him do the most, you may leave him thoughts like you aren’t that prepared for the interview.

Like what is already stated, mostly, this could be the very first question that the interviewers would throw to the applicant; this is the very best time at selling yourself to prospective employers, depending of how you use your words. When it is done very good and shrewdly, you may have the employment at your own grasp.
